Active Weather Pattern for the West into the Plains

A strong Pacific storm continues to track across the Great Basin. Heavy snow is expected across the higher elevations and heavy rain across lower terrain. Strong gusty winds will make for additional hazards for travelers. These winds will bring increasing fire weather concerns for the southern High Plains. We now have a Wind Advisory for the Mojave Desert, Mojave Desert slopes, and Indian Wells Valley. Wind speeds between 30 and 40 mph expected with gusts up to 55 mph. The advisory expires for the Mojave Desert and Indian Wells Valley at 11 PM tonight and for the Mojave Desert Slopes at 6 AM tomorrow.
A warming trend is expected Tuesday through Friday. By Friday afternoon, high temperatures across Central California will be six to eight degrees above normal for this time of year. Here are probabilities of maximum temperatures of 90 degrees or higher for select locations in the San Joaquin Valley from Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 through Saturday, May 11th, 2024.
