...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Rhode
Island...Connecticut...

  Pawcatuck River At Westerly affecting New London and Washington
  Counties.

  Pawcatuck River At Wood River Junction affecting Washington
  County.

For the Pawcatuck River...including Wood River Junction, Westerly...
Minor flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Additional information is available at www.weather.gov.

The next statement will be issued late tonight at 100 AM EDT.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Pawcatuck River at Westerly.

* WHEN...Until early tomorrow afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 7.0 feet, Minor lowland flooding occurs along the
  Pawcatuck River. Along Route 3 in Hopkinton, floodwaters encroach
  on lowest lying homes in French Village.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 4:00 PM EDT Saturday the stage was 7.0 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 7.0 feet.
  - Forecast...The river will oscillate around flood stage with a
    maximum value of 7.1 feet late this afternoon.
  - Flood stage is 7.0 feet.

  Drive in Charlestown.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 3:45 PM EDT Saturday the stage was 5.5 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 5.0 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
    early Tuesday morning and continue falling to 4.9 feet early
    Tuesday afternoon.
  - Flood stage is 5.0 feet.

...National Weather Service Cold Water Safety Message...

...Please check with state and local authorities regarding
guidelines for allowed activities...

* The warm air temperatures this weekend in the low to mid 70s may
  cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water
  temperatures which are currently only in the mid to upper 50s
  across Lake Champlain and in the regions smaller lakes and rivers.

* The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to
  anyone immersed in the water. When the water temperature is below
  60 degrees, the average submerged person could loose dexterity
  within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone
  on small boats, canoes or kayaks should plan accordingly if
  recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this
  threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life
  jacket!
